Who We Are

Developmental Disabilities Councils receive federal funds to conduct advocacy, capacity building and systems change activities to promote the self determination, independence, productivity, integration and inclusion of people with developmental disabilities in all facets of community life.  There is a DD Council in every state and U.S. territory.

The Louisiana Developmental Disabilities Council is comprised of twenty-eight people from across the state who are appointed by the Governor to develop and implement a five-year plan to address the needs of persons with developmental disabilities.  Membership includes persons with developmental disabilities, parents, advocates and representatives from public and private agencies.

The Council has a professional staff who assist Council members in meeting the goals and objectives in the five-year plan.
