Funding programs and services has become increasingly problematic with Louisiana experiencing billion dollar budget reductions year after year. The challenges presented by these budget reductions should serve as a call for advocates to educate policy makers to prioritize programs vital to support people with developmental disabilities in the community. Unfortunately, budget cuts have had a tremendous impact on services many individuals rely on to live in their community. While this economic climate has presented opportunities to change the direction of Louisiana's over-reliance on large public developmental centers, the budget cuts to nearly every program have stretched beyond what can be considered 'efficiencies.'
