Who Can Apply to the LADDC Council?

You can apply to be a Council member if you live in Louisiana and are:

  • An adult with a developmental disability,
  • A parent or guardian of a child with a developmental disability,
  • An immediate relative (close family member) or guardian of an adult with a developmental disability who cannot advocate for themselves, or
  • A person who works for a local, non-governmental agency concerned about services for people with developmental disabilities.

The Council wants people of all races, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, age, and type of developmental disability to apply.
When choosing members, the Council follows the requirements of the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act.

How Long Do Council Members Serve?

Council members are appointed by the governor for 4-year terms.

When Can You Apply?

You can apply anytime. When there is an opening for a new member, the Council’s membership committee reviews all applications. The committee makes recommendations to the full Council about who should become a member. The Council sends the names of the people it approves to the Governor for his consideration.
