Things to Know About Visits to the Capitol

Follow these rules when you visit the Capitol.

  • Do not take food and drinks into the committee rooms or in the House and Senate Chambers. They are not allowed.
  • Silence your cell phone and other electronic devices. Do not talk on your cell phone in committee rooms or in the House and Senate Chambers.
  • Remove hats while inside the Capitol.
  • If a committee room is full there is usually an “overflow” room with extra seating.
  • If elected officials say something in a committee or on the House or Senate floor that you do not agree with, do not boo or yell. Also, do not applaud or cheer in support of comments you agree with.
