The Louisiana Developmental Disabilities Council (the Council) has a new plan for the 2027 federal fiscal year, which begins on October 1, 2026. This plan explains what the Council will do to help improve the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) in Louisiana.

New Projects

Early Identification:

The Council will create and share easy-to-understand materials to help families and professionals notice early signs of developmental delays. This will help children get evaluations and services sooner.

Transportation Study:

The Council will study transportation issues that make it hard for people with I/DD to get where they need to go. The study will highlight gaps and make suggestions to improve access and independence.

Emergency Plans:

The Council will develop guides and tools to help people with I/DD and their families get ready for emergencies. These resources will help keep people safe and ensure care continues during disasters.

Transition Planning:

The Council will provide information and tools to help young people with I/DD move from school to adult life. This includes support for jobs, college, and independent living.

Childcare Training:

The Council will offer training for childcare providers so they can better support young children with developmental delays or disabilities. This will help more children get the care and inclusion they deserve.

Job Fairs:

The Council will host job fairs to connect people with I/DD to employers and job resources. The goal is to support meaningful, inclusive employment opportunities.

Ongoing Programs

The Council will continue supporting these important programs:

  • Partners in Policymaking
  • Youth Leadership Forum
  • People First
  • LaCAN and Advocacy Events
