About the Capitol
The Louisiana State Capitol is located at 900 N. Third Street in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The capitol houses the House of Representatives, the Senate, as well as offices for the Governor and other statewide elected officials.
The front entrance to the capitol is on the first floor and opens directly into Memorial Hall, commonly referred to as the rotunda. If you enter from the front steps into the rotunda, the Senate Chamber is located on the left and the House Chamber is located on the right.
The side (and accessible) entrances to the capitol are on the ground floor. On the ground floor, the Senate Committee rooms are located on the left side or the “Senate side” in Duval Hall and House Committee rooms are located on the right side or the “House side” in Bigby Hall. There are also committee rooms on the basement floor. House committee rooms on the basement floor are located in Alario Hall. The John Hainkel Senate Committee room is located on the basement floor.
The dining hall (cafeteria) is also located on the ground floor and is open to the public from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Directions to the Capitol
From I-10 West or East take I-110 North (which turns into MLK Expressway) to downtown Baton Rouge. At the curve, exit right on Capitol Access Rd./Dept. of Transportation & Development (Exit 1-E) and as you continue on this exit ramp you will loop back over I-110. If you are approaching from I-110 South, exit right on Capitol Access Rd. (Exit 1-E).
Whether you approach from the north or south, both exit ramps will direct you onto the Capitol Access Road heading in the direction of the State Capitol. You will see the Department of Transportation and Development on your right, pass through a traffic light, see the Governor’s Mansion on your right, and see the tower of the State Capitol building above the tree tops of the Arsenal Museum.
Parking
Parking is available along Capitol Access Road which circles the capitol and in the Claiborne Building lot on North 3rd St. Public parking is also available on Spanish Town Road and streets to its south, as well as in parking lots off of River Road which runs parallel to the State Capitol building and many other points of interest.
Visiting the Capitol
At all public entrances to the Capitol, there are metal detectors and x-ray machines. Visitors will be asked to remove all metal items from their person. All visitor belongings will be run through an x-ray machine. No weapons are allowed inside the Capitol including pocket knives.
